We get together regularly to celebrate the New Zealand-Shetland connection, provide information about Shetland to our members, and participate in community events to promote and celebrate Shetland’s culture, music and heritage.

Check out our Events page to see what functions are coming up. Every year we hold a Picnic, Viking Ball, Local Outing, Mid-winter Foy, Anniversary Dinner, and Children’s Christmas Party/Members’ Afternoon Tea. 

Membership

We extend a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us. Members get together regularly, receive a quarterly newsletter, and can borrow books relating to Shetland from our new library collection. Latest news

The next Society function will be the Annual Picnic on Sunday 3 March 2019 from 2pm (races and activities begin at 2.30pm) at the Kaitoke Regional Park, Upper Hutt. The main entrance is at Kaitoke. Turn left off SH2 at Waterworks Road, 12km north of Upper Hutt. The park entrance is 1km in from the highway. Look out for the Shetland flag.

Come and enjoy time together at a classic picnic with old-time races and activities for all ages. Come prepared to BBQ afterwards - we can use the campground shelter with coin-operated barbeques. Bring a kite to fly.

Postponement date is 10 March.
