Note about the Centenary Viking Ball - from Shetland Society of Wellington: (ALL OTHER CENTENARY EVENTS ARE GOING AHEAD)
With great regret, we have decided to defer our 10th September Centenary Viking Ball until next year, in light of the ongoing COVID pandemic and growing concerns about 'flu.

Vigorous dancing, eating and drinking and close physical contact with hundreds of people are all key elements that make our Viking Ball a success. But they are also the main means of transmitting viruses. We have judged that a month from now will still not be a responsible time for us to host our Viking Ball.

All those who have purchased tickets will of course have their money returned.

Our hope is that we can hold the Ball next year, and we will give plenty of notice of a new date. Our committee is very disappointed because we have worked so hard to prepare a memorable evening of amazing music, delicious food, great company and a wonderful mix of dancing - but we are confident that will still happen!

If you want to register your interest in the Centenary Viking Ball to be held in 2023, email us at

Our Society is delighted we can support and promote a new and exciting venture to learn more about the genetic roots of many health conditions. Viking II is seeking 4000 volunteers - the only condition is that you must have at least two of your four grandparents from Shetland or Orkney.
